How to Apply Decals: 12 Steps
Introduction:
Applying decals is a simple yet effective way to personalize and embellish various items, including cars, laptops, phone cases, and more. With the right tools and techniques, you can achieve professional-looking results. Follow these 12 steps to successful decal application.
1. Gather Your Materials:
Make sure that you have everything you need before starting – a decal, a squeegee or credit card, scissors, tape measure or ruler, cleaning solution (such as rubbing alcohol), lint-free cloth or paper towel, and transfer tape.
2. Clean the Surface:
Thoroughly clean the surface where you want to apply the decal. This will ensure proper adhesion and prevent dust from interfering with the process. Use rubbing alcohol and a lint-free cloth to wipe away any dirt, grease, or oil.
3. Measure and Plan:
Measure the space where you want to place your decal and plan its position accordingly. Use a ruler or measuring tape to ensure accurate placement.
4. Cut Out the Decal:
Carefully cut out your decal along its edges using scissors. Be cautious not to damage the design while cutting.
5. Apply Transfer Tape:
Peel off the backing of transfer tape and gently place it down over the decal’s design. Make sure there are no wrinkles or bubbles in the tape.
6. Smooth Down the Tape:
Once applied, use the squeegee to press down firmly on the transfer tape-covered design. This helps adhere the tape to decal completely and eliminates any air bubbles.
7. Peel Back Decal Backing:
Slowly peel back the decal’s backing paper from one corner while keeping transfer tape in place. Be sure that the entire design adheres to transfer tape as you peel.
8. Position Decal:
Carefully position your decal on desired surface while keeping an eye on the previously measured position. Make any adjustments necessary to align properly.
9. Press and Smooth Decal:
Once the decal is in the desired position, use your squeegee to press it onto the surface. Start from one side and work your way outwards to eliminate any air bubbles under the decal.
10. Remove Transfer Tape:
Very gently and slowly peel back the transfer tape off decal’s surface at a 180-degree angle. Be sure that the design remains adhered to surface fully as you peel.
11. Check for Air Bubbles:
Inspect the decal for any remaining air bubbles or wrinkles. You can smooth them out with your squeegee or credit card, or puncture them with a pin to let air escape.
12. Admire Your Work:
Take a step back and admire your newly applied decal! With proper care, it will stay looking great for years to come.
Follow these simple steps to effortlessly apply decals on various surfaces and personalize your items with ease. Remember that patience and preparation are key in achieving professional results, so take your time and enjoy the process!
