How Does Amazon Alexa’s Drop In Feature Work?
In the world of smart home technology, Amazon’s Alexa has become a household name. Alexa is a virtual assistant that can do a variety of things, like setting reminders and alarms, answering questions, and controlling smart home devices. And now, Alexa has a feature called “Drop In” that allows you to instantly connect to other Amazon Echo devices in your house or with your contacts, making it easier than ever to stay connected with your loved ones and friends.
But how does it work?
To use Drop In, you need to have Amazon Echo devices set up in your home, as well as contacts saved in your Alexa app. First, you need to enable the Drop In feature on your device- you can do this by going into your Alexa app and selecting the “Communicate” tab. From there, you can choose who you want to enable the feature for- you can select individual contacts or groups of contacts.
Once you’ve enabled the feature, you can start using it. Say, for example, you’re in the kitchen cooking dinner and you want to talk to your child who’s in their bedroom. All you have to do is say, “Alexa, drop in on [child’s name]” and your device will instantly connect to theirs. You can now have a two-way conversation with your child without them having to pick up their device or answer a call.
The Drop In feature also comes with some useful features, like the ability to turn off the microphone and camera on the device you’re dropping in on. This means that if you have a contact who may be using their Echo device in a private moment, they can still choose to not receive a drop in. Another handy feature is that you can choose to make certain devices “available for drop-in” at certain times. This is a great way to ensure that you’re not disturbing anyone in your home when they’re trying to sleep or work.
It’s important to note that the Drop In feature only works with other Amazon Echo devices, so you won’t be able to use it to contact people who don’t have an Echo. Additionally, the feature only works with contacts who have been specifically enabled for Drop In- you can’t just drop in on anyone. This is a good privacy measure.
