Best Things to Do in Iceland, Things I’d Skip in Iceland Next Time
Iceland, known for its stunning landscapes and unique Nordic culture, is a destination that often tops the list of travel enthusiasts. After exploring this ruggedly beautiful country, here are my recommendations for the best things to do in Iceland and a few things I’d skip next time.
Best Things to Do
1.Explore the Golden Circle: The Golden Circle is a classic route that takes you to some of Iceland’s most iconic sites. Don’t miss Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss Waterfall.
2.Take a Dip in the Blue Lagoon: Sure, it’s touristy, but there’s nothing like soaking in the warm, mineral-rich waters of the Blue Lagoon—a must-do for a reason.
3.Witness the Northern Lights: If you visit during the winter months, chasing the aurora borealis is an unforgettable experience. Find a spot away from light pollution and behold nature’s light show.
4.Hike in Vatnajökull National Park: Home to Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull National Park offers hiking opportunities with breathtaking views that are simply incomparable.
5.Visit Snæfellsnes Peninsula: Often dubbed ‘Iceland in Miniature’, this peninsula has everything from lava fields and mountains to waterfalls and quaint villages.
Things I’d Skip Next Time
1.Overcrowded Tourist Spots in High Season: Places like Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss are beautiful but can be overcrowded. I’d focus on less-visited waterfalls and nature spots.
2.Puffin Tours in Non-Peak Seasons: If you’re not visiting during peak puffin season (April through August), skip the puffin tours as you’re unlikely to see them.
3.Reykjavik’s Shopping Streets: Unless you’re specifically interested in Icelandic design, you might find the shopping streets of Reykjavik underwhelming compared to natural attractions.
Remember, while these are based on my experiences, your own travel preferences should guide your choices when visiting Iceland!
