How to Remove the Chat Button From the Windows 11 Taskbar
The chat button has become one of the most prominent features of the Windows 11 taskbar, providing quick access to Microsoft Teams, Skype, and other communication apps. While many users find it a useful tool for staying connected with their colleagues, family, and friends, others may find it bothersome and distracting. If you’re among the latter group, you’ll be glad to know there’s a way to remove the chat button from your Windows 11 taskbar. Here’s how you can do it:
Step 1: Right-click anywhere on the taskbar
The first step towards removing the chat button from the Windows 11 taskbar is right-clicking anywhere on the taskbar. Doing so will bring up the taskbar context menu, which provides access to several customization options.
Step 2: Select Taskbar settings
Once you’ve opened the taskbar context menu, look for the “Taskbar settings” option and click on it. This will take you to the Taskbar settings page, which allows you to configure various aspects of your taskbar.
Step 3: Navigate to the Personalization tab
Once you’re on the Taskbar settings page, navigate to the “Personalization” tab located in the left pane of the window. This tab provides access to various customization options for your taskbar, including color, background, and taskbar behaviors.
Step 4: Disable the Chat button toggle switch
Once you’re on the Personalization tab, scroll down until you see the “Chat button” option. The toggle switch for this option should be located under the “Taskbar items” section. Simply click on the “Chat button” toggle switch to disable it. When the toggle switch is turned off, the chat button will be removed from your taskbar.
Step 5: Restart Windows Explorer
Finally, to complete the process of removing the chat button from your taskbar, you’ll need to restart Windows Explorer. One way to do this is to open Task Manager (by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc), locate the “Windows Explorer” process under the “Processes” tab, right-click on it, and select “Restart” from the context menu. This should refresh your taskbar and remove the chat button from it.
