Motorcyclist Dies in Crash Near Winnabow
A tragic accident occurred near Winnabow on Sunday, November 12, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old motorcyclist. The incident took place around 5:05 p.m. on U.S. 17 near the Bell Swamp Connection.
According to Sgt. Wyrick of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Chance Rembert Way of Leland was traveling south on U.S. 17 when the accident occurred. An 86-year-old driver, Constance Papa, was stopped at the Bell Swamp Connection and attempted to cross the intersection, failing to yield to Way.
The collision caused Papa’s blue SUV to partially spin and come to rest on the road. Way was ejected from his motorcycle and landed on the shoulder of U.S. 17. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Papa has been charged with failure to yield and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance, especially at intersections.
