How to Level a Camper: 12 Steps
Leveling a camper is essential for the comfort and safety of those staying in it. Follow these 12 steps to ensure a perfectly leveled camper experience, regardless of the terrain.
.Choose a flat surface: Find the most level spot possible for your camper. Check the ground’s firmness too, ensuring it can support the weight of your camper.
.Gather required leveling tools: You will need level bubbles or level indicators, leveling blocks or ramps, and wheel chocks to prevent your camper from rolling.
.Place level bubbles: Attach or place level bubbles on both the side-to-side and front-to-back sections of your camper for accurate leveling measurements.
.Assess side-to-side balance: Check the side-to-side level bubble and determine which side needs to be raised.
.Position leveling blocks or ramps: Place leveling blocks or ramps next to the tires of the lower side of the camper.
.Back onto leveling blocks: Carefully move or drive your camper onto the leveling blocks, checking the level bubble as you go until it indicates that side is now balanced.
.Chock wheels: Place wheel chocks in front of and behind each tire (on both sides) to secure your camper in place.
.Disconnect towing vehicle: Before adjusting front-to-back balance, unhook your vehicle from the hitch if you are using a travel trailer.
.Assess front-to-back balance: Check the front-to-back level bubble, determining whether you need to raise or lower the front end of your camper.
.Adjust stabilizing jacks or tongue jack: Use the stabilizing jacks at the rear of your camper, or tongue jack at the front if needed, until the front-to-back level bubble indicates proper balance.
.Secure jacks in place: Tighten any locks on jacks and ensure they are stable, making sure the camper is secure and immobile.
.Recheck for level: Double-check the side-to-side and front-to-back level bubbles to confirm your camper is now perfectly balanced.
By following these 12 steps, you will create a safe, comfortable environment in your leveled camper. This thorough process ensures optimal functionality of appliances, reduced risk of potential accidents, and increased enjoyment during your camping experience.
