A kegerator is essential for beer enthusiasts who love draft beer at home. To enjoy your drink’s full flavor and protect the system, a regular cleaning is necessary. Here are 12 steps to follow when cleaning your kegerator.
1. Gather necessary supplies: You will need a beer line cleaning kit, rubber gloves, a faucet wrench, a bucket, and a sponge or cloth.
2. Disassemble the faucet: Turn off the gas supply to your kegerator and close the coupler. Use the faucet wrench to unscrew and remove the faucet from the tower.
3. Mix cleaning solution: Follow the instructions provided by your beer line cleaning kit. Mix the required amount of solution with water in the included container.
4. Disconnect beer lines: Remove the couplers from each tap line you will be cleaning. Plug one end of the beer line cleaning kit attachment into each coupler.
5. Circulate cleaning solution: Attach the other end of the attachment to your faucet coupling. Open the faucet to allowed the cleaning solution to flow through the lines, back into your container of solution.
6. Soak components in solution: While waiting for a few minutes for the lines to soak, disassemble your faucet components and let them soak in the container of diluted cleaning solution as well.
7. Rinse with clean water: After allowing adequate time for soaking, empty your container of cleaning solution and replace it with clean water. Run this water through your beer lines in a similar way as before until all residual cleaner is flushed out.
8. Disconnect cleaning kit: Remove each coupler and hose from your kegerator and unfasten them from your beer line cleaning kit attachment.
9. Sanitize disassembled parts: Mix a sanitizing solution using an approved sanitizer according to its instructions. Submerge all parts previously soaking in cleaner (faucet components, couplers, etc.) into the sanitizing solution. Allow parts to air dry afterwards.
10. Reassemble and reconnect: Put together the components of the faucets that were disassembled. Reattach them to the tower with the faucet wrench. Connect the couplers to their corresponding beer lines and tap them back onto your keg.
11. Turn on gas and check for leaks: Open the gas supply to your kegerator again and adjust to the appropriate pressure. Check all connections for leaks, and make necessary adjustments as needed.
12. Clean exterior: Wipe down the exterior of your kegerator with a damp cloth or sponge, ensuring it looks as fresh as your beer will taste.
By following these 12 steps, you can maintain your kegerator’s performance and ensure the quality of each poured draft beer. Cheers!
