7 Easy Ways to Fix Water Damaged Airpods
Accidentally dropping your AirPods in water or exposing them to moisture can be a nightmare for any user. But worry not! There are several ways to salvage your precious earbuds from water damage. Here are seven easy steps to fix water-damaged AirPods and bring them back to life.
1. Shake off excess water
Immediately after retrieving your AirPods from the water, shake off as much excess water as possible. You can gently tap the AirPods against a towel or tissue while holding onto the stem, ensuring you don’t cause more damage in the process.
2. Dry with a soft cloth
Take a clean, lint-free cloth or microfiber towel and gently blot the exterior of your AirPods. Avoid rubbing, which may push water deeper into the device
3. Use silica gel packets
Place your AirPods in a Ziplock bag or an airtight container with several silica gel packets (the small packets commonly found in packaged products like shoes). The silica gel will absorb any remaining moisture from your AirPods over time. Leave them in the container for at least 24 hours.
4. Use uncooked rice (alternative method)
If you don’t have access to silica gel packets, you can use uncooked rice as an alternative method for absorbing moisture. Fill a bowl with uncooked rice and bury your AirPods in it. Ensure they are completely covered and leave them for about 24-48 hours.
5. Leave them to air dry
After using either silica gel packets or uncooked rice, remove your AirPods from their container and allow them to air dry for at least a few more hours in a well-ventilated area.
6. Test and charge
Once they’re thoroughly dry, try connecting your AirPods to a power source and charge them for at least 30 minutes before attempting to use them. Check the charging status and monitor if they charge as usual.
7. Contact Apple Support
If your AirPods still don’t function after following the above steps, it might be time to get professional help. Contact Apple Support or visit an authorized service center to seek assistance.
Though these steps can help you fix water-damaged AirPods, prevention is always better than cure. In the future, make sure you’re cautious when using your AirPods around water, and consider investing in a waterproof or water-resistant case for added protection.
