3 Ways to Pumice a Wart
Warts, although harmless, can be quite annoying and may cause discomfort. These small, fleshy growths are the result of HPV (human papillomavirus) invading the top layer of skin. One common way to remove a wart is by using a pumice stone, which gently removes dead layers of skin until the wart is no longer visible. Here are three ways to pumice a wart.
1. The Soak and Pumice Method
This technique involves soaking the affected area in warm water and then using a pumice stone to wear down the wart.
Step 1: Fill a container large enough to cover the affected area with warm water. Add some Epsom salts for additional benefits if desired.
Step 2: Soak the affected area for about 15-20 minutes, or until it becomes soft and supple. This will make it easier for the pumice stone to work effectively when removing wart tissue.
Step 3: Gently rub the pumice stone over the wart in a circular motion, applying light pressure. Ensure that you do not irritate or damage surrounding healthy skin. Rinse away residue periodically.
Step 4: Continue this process until you’ve worn down your wart as much as possible without causing discomfort or excessive skin irritation.
2. The Compound W and Pumice Method
By using an over-the-counter product like Compound W before using a pumice stone, you can combine two treatments for better and quicker results.
Step 1: Apply a layer of Compound W or other over-the-counter salicylic acid gel or liquid over your wart following the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow it to penetrate for the time recommended by the manufacturer.
Step 2: After allowing the treatment time, soak your wart in warm water for about 5 minutes to soften it.
Step 3: Gently rub a pumice stone over the affected area in the circular motion as previously mentioned. Be cautious not to damage healthy skin. Rinse away residue periodically.
Step 4: Reapply Compound W as instructed, and repeat the process as needed until the wart is gone.
3. The Duct Tape and Pumice Method
Using duct tape to cover your wart can help it peel off quickly when combined with pumicing.
Step 1: Cut a small piece of duct tape, large enough to cover your wart completely, and press it firmly against your skin.
Step 2: Leave the duct tape on for six days, then remove it. If it falls off during this period, replace it with a new piece.
Step 3: Soak your wart in warm water for around 5 minutes or until softened and apply a pumice stone as previously described.
Step 4: Replace the duct tape after pumicing. Repeat this process until the wart is gone.
To ensure that you do not spread the HPV virus to other areas or people, always wash your hands thoroughly before and after touching your wart or any tools involved in removal. Additionally, sterilize your pumice stone by washing it with soap and water followed by a soak in rubbing alcohol for at least five minutes. Remember that patience is key; give these methods time to work effectively before seeking medical attention for persistent warts.
