How to Wash High Windows
Cleaning high windows is a daunting task that most homeowners dread. It can be time-consuming, potentially dangerous, and difficult to do correctly. However, with the right strategy and tools, you can efficiently wash your high windows without risking your safety or leaving streaks. In this article, we’ll guide you through the process of washing high windows effectively.
1. Gather the necessary tools:
Before starting, gather all the necessary tools to ensure a smooth experience. Here are some essential items you will need:
– Extension pole
– Window cleaner
– Squeegee
– Microfiber cloth or scrubber
– Bucket with water and soap
– Ladder (if required)
– Safety harness or equipment (if working at heights)
2. Choose a suitable weather condition:
To get the best results, choose a day with mild weather for cleaning high windows. Overcast days are preferable as they help prevent the cleaner from drying too quickly and leaving streaks. Avoid cleaning windows on a windy day, which can cause safety issues when working at height with an extension pole or ladder.
3. Prepare a cleaning solution:
Mix water with a few drops of dish soap or use a commercial window cleaning solution for best results. Prepare enough of this mixture to clean all your high windows thoroughly.
4. Secure your ladder and safety equipment:
If you need to use a ladder to reach your high windows, place it on stable, even ground and ensure it is secure before climbing up. Always use safety equipment such as harnesses if working at heights greater than two stories.
5. Wet the window:
Using an extension pole attached to a scrubber or microfiber cloth soaked in the cleaning solution, wet the entire window surface gently. Take care not to damage any screens or surrounding objects.
6. Apply the window cleaner:
Spray your chosen window cleaner liberally onto the wet window. In case you’re using a cleaning solution, you can dip the scrubber or cloth in the bucket and apply it to the window.
7. Scrub the window:
Again, using your extension pole with a scrubber or cloth, scrub the window to remove any dust, debris, and dirt. Make sure to cover every corner and edge of the glass.
8. Use the squeegee:
Attach a squeegee to your extension pole and wipe away the cleaning solution. Start at the top edge of the window and drag it horizontally across the glass from left to right (or vice versa). Wipe the squeegee blade clean with a cloth after each stroke to remove excess water. Repeat this process, working your way down the window in overlapping strokes until you reach the bottom.
9. Dry any remaining water:
Use a microfiber cloth or towel to dry any remaining water drips or streaks on your high windows. This will help ensure a spotless, streak-free finish.
10. Clean up:
After washing all of your high windows, be sure to clean up your work area by putting away your tools and disposing of any waste.
Now that you’re familiar with these steps, you can effectively tackle those dreaded high windows with ease and confidence. Patience, safety precautions, and proper technique are key components in making this process smooth and successful. Happy cleaning!
