There are occasions when we need to appear sicker than we are, either to skip an event we don’t want to attend or to gain sympathy from friends and family. Whatever the reason, here are three ways to make yourself look sick without actually having to suffer the consequences. Remember, though, that using these techniques can lead to complications and trouble; use them judiciously.
1. Pale Complexion and Dark Circles:
Looking pale is one of the quickest ways to show that you’re not feeling well. To achieve a convincing pallor, you’ll need some makeup essentials: a foundation or concealer lighter than your natural skin tone, and a darker color for creating eye bags. Start by applying the lighter foundation/concealer evenly all over your face – this will make your skin look dull and lifeless. Next, use a small brush to apply the darker color under your eyes, blending it well into your skin. The dark circles will give off the impression that you haven’t slept well or that you’re not in top shape.
2. Fake a Cough or Sneeze:
Coughing and sneezing are classic symptoms of being sick, so incorporating them into your act can be quite convincing. Practice fake coughing and sneezing beforehand so that it sounds natural when you do it around others.
If you are planning on faking a cough for an extended period, try adding some vocal strain for authenticity; this will make your fake cough sound more genuine. Remember not to overdo it, as excessive coughing or sneezing might raise suspicion.
3. Mimic Common Symptoms:
To complete the sick look, mimic common symptoms associated with illnesses such as the flu or a cold. These include fever, headache, lethargy, and body aches.
– Fever: Tell people that you’re running a high temperature and occasionally press a cold cloth to your forehead. Of course, make sure to complain about the fever and how bad you’re feeling.
– Headache: Pretend that you have a throbbing headache by massaging your temples or holding your head in your hands. Squinting and wincing as if in pain will make it more believable.
– Lethargy: Slouch, yawn, and show a general lack of energy. Speak in hushed tones about how tired you feel, and prop yourself up with pillows if necessary.
– Body Aches: Complain about sore muscles or joints whenever you move. Walk with a slight limp, hold onto furniture while navigating through a room, or make audible groans when sitting down.
With these three techniques in mind, you should be able to give off the impression of being sick quite effortlessly. Remember that using these methods to deceive others comes with possible repercussions, so it’s essential to weigh the pros and cons before committing to your act.
