Mold can be unsightly and hazardous to your health, but fortunately, cleaning mold in a shower can be a simple process if you follow these 13 steps.
1. Gather your supplies: Collect rubber gloves, a sponge or scrub brush, white vinegar, baking soda, bleach, a spray bottle, a bowl, and a cloth or towel.
2. Wear protective gear: Before handling any chemicals or mold, put on rubber gloves to protect your skin.
3. Ventilate the area: Open windows or turn on the bathroom fan to allow better air circulation during the cleaning process.
4. Mix a cleaning solution: In a spray bottle, mix equal parts water and white vinegar. This solution will help break down the mold and disinfect the area.
5. Apply the solution to the moldy areas: Spray the vinegar mixture directly onto the mold spots in your shower.
6. Let it sit for 15 minutes: Allow the vinegar solution to work its magic for about 15 minutes before moving on to the next step.
7. Scrub away the mold: Using a sponge or scrub brush, gently scrub the moldy areas in circular motions until the visible mold is removed.
8. Use baking soda for stubborn spots: If some mold spots are proving difficult to remove, make a paste of baking soda and water, apply it to these areas as-needed with your sponge or scrub brush and repeat steps 6-7.
9. Rinse with water: After scrubbing all of the affected areas, rinse them thoroughly with water from your showerhead or by filling up buckets of water & dousing them onto surfaces.
10. Disinfect with bleach (optional): If you’re concerned about lingering spores or want extra cleaning power, dilute one part bleach with ten parts water in a spray bottle & apply this solution over previously affected areas after rinsing. Let sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing the area with water again.
11. Wipe away residual moisture: After all of your cleaning and rinsing is complete, dry off the surfaces with a clean cloth or towel to prevent mold from reappearing.
12. Remove and wash shower curtain/liner: If you have a shower curtain or liner, don’t forget to remove it and give it a wash in your washing machine (according to label care instructions) to eliminate any mold spores hiding there.
13. Prevent future mold growth: Keep your bathroom well-ventilated by leaving windows open, using exhaust vents regularly, and wiping down any excess moisture after showers. If possible, use a squeegee on the walls & floor after each shower to reduce standing water.
By following these 13 steps, you can effectively clean mold in your shower and maintain a healthier living environment within your bathroom.
