3 Ways to Disassemble a Glock
Glocks are widely used handguns, favored for their reliability, simplicity and ease of maintenance. Despite being user-friendly, it’s still essential to know how to properly disassemble a Glock for cleaning and maintenance purposes. Below are three ways to disassemble a Glock, each ensuring safe and efficient handling.
1. Standard Field Stripping
Step 1: Remove the magazine and ensure the gun is unloaded.
Before starting any disassembly process, always double-check that there is no ammunition inside the firearm. Remove the magazine, open the slide and visually inspect the chamber.
Step 2: Point the gun in a safe direction and pull the trigger.
After confirming that the gun is indeed unloaded, direct the muzzle in a secure direction and pull the trigger.
Step 3: Pull back the slide slightly.
Place one hand on top of the slide and pull it back just enough to relieve tension from the slide lock.
Step 4: Depress both sides of the slide lock simultaneously.
With your other hand, use your thumb and forefinger to apply even pressure on both sides of the slide lock above the trigger.
Step 5: Remove the slide assembly.
Gently move the slide assembly forward off of the frame. You’ve successfully disassembled your Glock!
2. Complete Disassembly for Detail Cleaning
This method involves breaking down your Glock into smaller parts for thorough cleaning.
Follow steps 1-6 from Method 1 (Standard Field Stripping) as mentioned above.
Step 7: Remove Glock parts for cleaning.
At this stage, take out several key components such as recoil spring assembly, barrel lug and firing pin safety. Clean all individual parts carefully before reassembling.
3. Armorers Method (For Certified Armorers)
This method should only be used by individuals who have received proper training from a certified Glock Armorer course.
Step 1: Follow steps 1-6 from Method 1 (Standard Field Stripping)
Step 2: Follow the Glock Armorers Manual.
Accredited Glock Armorers possess a detailed manual that outlines specific instructions to dismantle and maintain a Glock pistol completely. They are trained to diagnose and resolve any issues that may arise during the disassembly process.
In conclusion, these three methods provide varying degrees of detail in disassembling a Glock handgun. Standard field stripping and complete disassembly are suitable for most gun owners, while the Armorers Method should be reserved for certified professionals. Regardless of which method chosen, always practice safety measures and adhere to proper maintenance guidelines.
