What to Do if Messages Starts Showing Phone Numbers Instead of Contact Names
For most of us, modern-day communication is all about convenience. Whether it’s through texting or calling, knowing the person on the other end of the line is essential. However, at times we encounter problems that can cause frustration or confusion such as messages displaying phone numbers instead of contact names.
It may happen with a new phone number or an update in your phone’s operating system. Regardless of why it happens, it can be quite irritating. Here are a few suggestions on how to solve the problem and get back to convenient communication.
1. Check the Contacts
Ensure that the person or number you’re trying to reach has been saved as an individual in the contacts list. If not, save a new contact with the person’s name and the number you have.
2. Update Your Contacts
Synchronizing your contacts is necessary. If your contacts are saved on Google or iCloud, sign in to your account to update it.
3. Reboot Your Phone
Try restarting your phone as it may solve the problem by refreshing the phone’s software. It is a basic solution, but sometimes it’s good to start with the basics before checking other things.
4. Reset Your Settings
Resetting settings to the default mode can also work. Go to the phone settings and select “Reset All Settings” or “Reset Network Settings” to get back to default mode. However, be aware that it may remove your custom settings.
5. Turn Off Caller ID
If the contact still isn’t appearing correctly after taking the above steps, turn off your Caller ID. Go to your device settings and navigate to “Phone” or “Phone App.” From there, select “Caller ID” and turn it off.
6. Reinstall the App
If you’re using a messaging or calling application and are having trouble with the contact name not showing up, try reinstalling the app. Reinstalling will get rid of the technical bugs that may affect the app’s functioning.
