Manjaro Linux is a user-friendly and easy-to-use Linux distribution that is gaining popularity among Linux enthusiasts and beginners alike. With its intuitive graphical interface and compatibility with a wide range of software, games and applications, Manjaro provides a great alternative to other operating systems. In this article, we will guide you through the process of installing Manjaro Linux on your PC.
Step 1: Downloading Manjaro Linux
To install Manjaro Linux, you must first download the operating system from the official website. Visit https://manjaro.org/download/ and select the appropriate version of Manjaro for your computer architecture. Manjaro is available in three desktop environments – GNOME, KDE and XFCE – and with four installation options: Minimal, XFCE, KDE, and GNOME.
Step 2: Creating a bootable USB
After downloading the Manjaro ISO file, it’s time to create a bootable USB drive to install the operating system. A bootable USB is required to copy the ISO image to a USB stick so the installation process can begin.
To create a bootable USB, you’ll need a USB drive with at least 8GB of storage. Insert the USB drive into your computer and download and install Rufus or Etcher software to create the USB drive.
Open Rufus or Etcher software, select the USB drive and the downloaded Manjaro ISO file location. Select the option to Create a bootable USB with the ISO and start the process. Once the process is completed successfully, you can proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Booting from USB
To install Manjaro Linux, you must boot your computer from the USB drive. Restart or turn on your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup by pressing the correct key (usually F2 or delete key) while the computer boots up. Within the BIOS/ UEFI menu, navigate to the Boot Options and select the USB drive where you have created the bootable USB stick. Save and exit the menu to reboot your computer and boot from the USB drive.
Step 4: Installing Manjaro Linux
When your computer boots from USB, you will be presented with the Manjaro Linux installation wizard. Follow the steps in the wizard to configure the installation to your preferences. Select the language, location, keyboard type, and desired desktop environment.
Select the disk or partition where you want to install Manjaro Linux. If you wish to dual boot with another operating system, choose the option to install Manjaro Linux alongside the existing operating system. If you want to erase the entire disk and install Manjaro Linux, select the corresponding option.
Specify the username and password for the account. You must enter a password for the root user account, which is separate from your user account. Wait for the installation process to complete.
Step 5: Finishing the installation
Once the installation is completed, reboot your PC and select the option to boot from the hard drive. Manjaro Linux will start up, and you can log in with the account you created during the installation process.
