9 Ways to Turn Off Parental Controls
Parental controls can be a useful tool for ensuring your child’s safety as they explore the digital world, but there may come a time when you want to remove those restrictions. Whether you believe your child is responsible enough to manage their online activities or simply think it’s time to give them more freedom, here are nine ways you can turn off parental controls on different devices and platforms.
1. Windows 10 Family Safety Settings
To turn off parental controls in Windows 10, go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Accounts’ > ‘Family & other users’. Find your child’s account and click ‘Manage Family Settings Online’. Sign in with your Microsoft account and select the child’s profile. Under ‘Settings’, click on the switch to disable all family features.
2. macOS Parental Controls
On a Mac, go to ‘System Preferences’ > ‘Parental Controls’. Select the user account and click on the lock icon to begin unlocking parental controls. Enter your admin password, click ‘Unlock’, and turn off the required settings.
3. Android Screen Time
For Android devices, open the Family Link app and sign in with your Google account. Select your child’s profile, tap on ‘Screen Time’, and switch off any set limits.

Turn off parental controls on Xbox One by opening the Xbox One guide menu and selecting: Profile & System > Settings > Account > Family settings > Manage family members. Choose the family member you want to remove restrictions for, select Access to content, and adjust accordingly.
6. PlayStation 4/5
In the PlayStation menu, navigate to: Settings > Parental Controls/Family Management > PS4/PS5 System Restrictions > Select ‘Do Not Restrict’. Enter the system restriction passcode if prompted.
7. Nintendo Switch
To turn off parental controls on a Nintendo Switch, launch the Parental Controls app on your smartphone linked to the console. Tap on the ‘Settings’ icon and select ‘Unregister’. Confirm by tapping ‘Unregister’ again.
8. YouTube Kids
Open the YouTube Kids app, tap on the lock icon at the bottom right corner, enter your custom passcode or solve the math problem, and press ‘Settings’. Select your child’s profile, go to ‘Content Level’ and choose ‘Approved Content Only’. Deselect all approved channels to effectively remove restrictions.
9. Netflix
Log in to your Netflix account on a web browser. Go to ‘Account’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘Parental Controls’. Enter your Netflix password and disable any PINs or restrictions that are currently set up.
