9 Ways to Fix Memoji Disappeared After iOS 17 Update on iPhone
As iOS updates roll out, they bring new features and bug fixes but can sometimes introduce new issues. A common problem that some iPhone users face after updating to iOS 17 is that their Memoji might disappear. Memoji are personalized, animated characters that can mimic your facial expressions and be used in messages and FaceTime. If your Memoji have disappeared after the iOS 17 update, don’t worry; here are nine ways to fix the issue.
1. Restart Your iPhone: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix temporary glitches caused by the system update. Press and hold either the volume or side button until the power off slider appears. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
2. Check iCloud Settings: Ensure that Memoji syncing is enabled in your iCloud settings. Go to ‘Settings’ > [your name] > ‘iCloud’ and toggle on ‘Messages’.
3. Update Messaging App: Make sure that your messaging app is updated to the latest version as outdated versions might not be compatible with the new iOS.
4. Re-Add Memoji Stickers: If Memoji stickers are missing from your keyboard, go to ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ > ‘Keyboard’. Scroll down to ‘Emoji’ and make sure that ‘Memoji Stickers’ is enabled.
5. Reset Keyboard Dictionary: Sometimes the keyboard dictionary gets corrupted after an update. Resetting it can bring back missing features: ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ > ‘Reset’ > ‘Reset Keyboard Dictionary’.
6. Check for Additional iOS Updates: Occasionally, Apple releases a follow-up software update to address issues caused by a major update. Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ > ‘Software Update’ and install any available updates.
7. Restore from a Previous Backup: If you backed up your iPhone before updating to iOS 17, you could restore from that backup to retrieve lost data including Memoji.
8. Create New Memoji: If all else fails, create a new Memoji by going into your messaging app, tapping on the three dots (‘…’) next to your frequently used Memoji and selecting ‘New Memoji’.
9. Contact Apple Support: If none of these steps work, there may be an underlying issue with your device or the operating system itself. Contacting Apple Support or visiting an Apple Store may provide additional solutions.
Before trying these solutions, ensure that you know all of your passwords and have recent backups as some solutions like restoring from backups can result in data loss if not done correctly.
