3 Ways to Put in Earplugs
Earplugs can be a lifesaver if you’re trying to study, sleep, or focus amidst noisy surroundings. To effectively block out noise and ensure maximum comfort, it’s essential to insert earplugs correctly. Here are three ways to put in earplugs for optimal noise reduction and a snug fit.
1. Roll and Insert Foam Earplugs
Foam earplugs are highly popular because they’re soft, comfortable, and effective at reducing noise. To insert them properly, follow these steps:
a. Clean your hands: Always start with clean hands to avoid introducing dirt or bacteria into your ears.
b. Roll the earplug: Hold the foam earplug between your thumb and forefinger and gently roll it into a narrow cylinder. Avoid creasing or bending the foam which may compromise its noise-blocking capacity.
c. Pull back your ear: Using your free hand, gently pull the top of your ear upwards and outwards to straighten the ear canal.
d. Insert the earplug: Gently slide the rolled-up earplug into your ear while maintaining a slight upward angle. Push it in until you feel a snug fit but do not force it too deep into your ear.
e. Hold in place: Keep holding the foam in place for about 20-30 seconds until it expands to fill your ear canal.
2. Insert Flanged Silicone or Pre-molded Earplugs
Flanged silicone and pre-molded earplugs are reusable and made of materials like silicone or rubber that conform well to the shape of your ears. Here’s how to insert them properly:
a. Clean your hands: Wash your hands before handling any type of earplug.
b. Position the plug: Hold the stem or handle of the earplug between your thumb and forefinger, making sure not to touch the flange tips.
c. Pull back your ear: Use your other hand to gently pull your ear upwards and outwards to open the ear canal.
d. Insert the plug: Gently insert the first flange into your ear, then allow the other flanges to follow. The plug should feel comfortable and secure in your ear.
3. Use Wax or Silicone Putty Earplugs
Wax or silicone putty earplugs are an excellent option for blocking out water and noise while swimming or sleeping. Here’s how to use them:
a. Clean your hands: Start with freshly washed hands and a clean pair of earplugs.
b. Prepare the putty: Take the putty out of its storage container and soften it between your fingers by rolling it into a ball.
c. Position the putty: Place the ball of putty over your ear opening, ensuring that it covers the entire entrance without pushing it inside the canal.
d. Mold the putty: Gently press and mold the putty to create a seal around your ear opening, ensuring an effective noise-blocking barrier.
Remember, practice makes perfect when inserting earplugs, and you’ll get better with each use. Ensure that you follow these techniques for different types of earplugs and enjoy a peaceful environment free from unwanted noise and disturbances!
