3 Ways to Get Wrinkles out of Paper
Whether it’s an important document, a cherished photograph, or a piece of artwork, a wrinkled piece of paper can be frustrating to deal with. Fortunately, there are several methods you can employ to get wrinkles out of paper and restore its original appearance. In this article, we’ll explore three ways to achieve this:
1. Ironing Method
Ironing is a practical method to remove wrinkles from paper, especially when dealing with larger pieces. Here’s how you can use an iron to flatten crumpled paper:
– Start by preheating your iron at the lowest heat setting.
– Lay the wrinkled paper on a smooth, clean surface (such as an ironing board).
– Place a thin cloth or tissue over the paper to protect it from direct heat.
– Gently press the preheated iron onto the cloth-covered paper and move in a circular motion for 10-15 seconds. Be sure not to use the steam function, as excess moisture can further damage the paper.
– Gradually increase the iron’s pressure if necessary, but do not keep it in one place for too long. Continue till all wrinkles have dissipated.
2. Heavy Weight Press Method
The weighted press method is a simpler alternative that is ideal for smaller or more delicate pieces of paper:
– Place your wrinkled paper on a flat surface like a table. Ensure that there are no obstructions around it.
– Cover the paper with another flat item such as a sheet of plastic, cardboard or glass. The covering material should be larger than the wrinkled paper.
– Put heavy objects like books or weights evenly on top of the covering material, taking care not to overlap the edges of your paper.
– Leave the weight in place for 24 hours or until all wrinkles have vanished.
3. Damp Towel and Blow Dryer Method
If you prefer a quicker solution, try the damp towel and blow dryer method:
– Select a clean, flat surface to work on and place a clean, damp towel on it.
– Position the wrinkled paper on top of the damp towel. Gently unfold or flatten the wrinkles using your fingers.
– Take another damp, clean towel and cover the paper ensuring no part of the paper is left exposed
– Using a blow dryer set on medium heat, begin to dry the top towel while keeping the dryer at least 6 inches away from it. Move in small circular motions.
– As you progress, lift the top towel periodically to inspect your paper. Once all wrinkles are gone, remove it from beneath both towels and let it air dry completely.
By following one of these three methods according to your needs, you can effectively remove wrinkles from paper and salvage your documents or cherished memories. Always remember to handle delicate papers with care and when in doubt, seek professional help to avoid any irreparable damages.
