3 Easy Ways to Cover a Book with Plastic
Books provide us with endless knowledge, entertainment, and inspiration. To protect them from dust, spills, and wear and tear, it’s important to cover them with plastic. Here are three easy ways to do just that:
1. Using a Book Cover Sleeve
Materials needed:
– Plastic book cover sleeve (available in most stationery shops)
– Scissors
Instructions:
a) Purchase a book cover sleeve of the appropriate size for your book.
b) Carefully slide the front and back cover of the book into the sleeve’s pockets.
c) Trim any excess plastic from the edges of the sleeve if necessary.
d) Smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles to ensure a neat finish.
2. Using Adhesive Clear Plastic Film
Materials needed:
– Roll of adhesive clear plastic film (also known as contact paper)
– Scissors
– Ruler
– Pencil
– Bone folder (optional)
Instructions:
a) Lay your book open on a flat surface with the covers facing down.
b) Measure the dimensions of the entire book and add an inch to each side for allowance. Cut a piece of adhesive film according to these measurements.
c) Peel back a small portion of the backing paper from one side of the adhesive film and carefully stick it onto one edge of your book cover.
d) Gradually peel away more backing paper, smoothing down the adhesive film on both covers while ensuring there are no air bubbles or wrinkles.
e) Fold over any excess film onto the interior of the book covers and smooth down using a bone folder for a crisp finish.
3. Using Non-Adhesive Clear Plastic Sheet
Materials needed:
– Non-adhesive clear plastic sheet/roll
– Scissors
– Tape
– Ruler
– Pencil
Instructions:
a) Open your book flat on a surface with the covers facing down. Ensure that there’s some allowance for the binding.
b) Measure the dimensions of the entire book and add half an inch to each side for folding. Cut a piece of non-adhesive clear plastic according to these measurements.
c) Place your book in the center of the plastic sheet, making sure that the extra allowance is evenly distributed around the edges of the book.
d) Using scissors, cut small slits at each corner to create flaps from the excess plastic.
e) Fold over one set of flaps, ensuring a smooth edge. Secure them in place onto the inside of the book covers using tape.
f) Repeat the process for the other set of flaps on the opposite side.
Covering your book with plastic is a simple yet effective way to ensure its longevity. Choose the method that best suits your needs and enjoy reading your favorite books in their new protective covers!
