2025 Volkswagen Golf R
The Volkswagen Golf R, the high-performance flagship of the Golf lineup, receives a comprehensive update for the 2025 model year. Building on the already impressive capabilities of its predecessor, the new Golf R aims to push the boundaries of what’s possible in a compact performance car.
At the heart of the 2025 Golf R is an uprated version of Volkswagen‘s EA888 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Power output has been increased to an impressive 328 horsepower, a gain of 13 hp over the outgoing model. Torque remains unchanged at 310 lb-ft, but the additional horsepower should result in even more explosive acceleration.
Like its GTI sibling, the 2025 Golf R will no longer be offered with a manual transmission. Instead, all models will come equipped with Volkswagen‘s quick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. While this may disappoint some driving enthusiasts, it should result in faster acceleration times and improved overall performance.
The Golf R’s advanced 4Motion all-wheel-drive system carries over, featuring a torque-vectoring rear differential that can actively distribute power between the rear wheels for improved handling and cornering performance. The adaptive suspension system has been retuned for 2025, promising an even better balance between comfort and sportiness.
Visually, the 2025 Golf R receives similar updates to the GTI, including new LED headlights and taillights, a redesigned front bumper, and an illuminated Volkswagen logo. Exclusive to the R are unique 19-inch wheels, blue brake calipers, and quad exhaust tips. A new “Black Edition” package will be available, featuring darkened exterior elements for a more aggressive look.
Inside, the Golf R benefits from the same technology upgrades as the GTI, including the larger 12.9-inch infotainment screen and updated digital instrument cluster. The R also receives unique interior touches, such as sport seats with integrated headrests and blue contrast stitching.
With its increased power, advanced technology, and refined styling, the 2025 Volkswagen Golf R looks to cement its position as one of the most capable and desirable hot hatches on the market.
